Default too much oil?

I noticed that my oil is over the thatched area that is on the dip stick, should I be concerned?

Depends, how far above the thatched area is it?

If it is barely above the thatched area, you will be ok. If is up on the stick too much then you really have too much oil in there and yes it can be a problem if there is too much. Safest thing to do is open up the pan for a few seconds and let a little out. It is a pain in the butt and you don't really want to do it if its barely above the line, but do it if you have to.

You could also use a vacuum hand pump with a catch can and a good length of hose and suck some of it out of the dipstick hole, it will save you from pulling the plug.

You could blow a headgasket or a catalytic converter.
