Default Too Much Turbo Blowoff

Hey all,
Last week my 2002 a4 1.8T started venting a lot of air from the turbo. Between 2500-4000 RPMs the turbo just blows everything out and is VERY loud. And my A4 is driving like crap. This happens in 2-5th gears. Does anyone know why the turbo is blowing off so much air? Does the turbo need to be adjusted regularly?

thanks for the help

could be a number of things

torn boost hose or a ripped diaphram in your dv are likely suspects

pressure test the system and find out if you have any leaks

Panda how can you say his turbo is going bad? Thats a leak, you would hear bad things if ur turbo was going, like grinding, metal to metal. Or like a small drill.

I would think that its probably the Diverter valve and thats just like a 20$ fix . Looks like it is a good time to install a boost gauge....

Have you gotten a CEL yet? I would have thought if he popped a line then a CEL would come up. Defintely could be the DV, maybe something to do with the spring inside the DV.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but...how much does a boost gauge cost (parts and labor)?

if he popped a line he would be getting no boost at all

seems that here, when the boost picks up past about 5PSI it leaks under the pressure, so the line is still on there.

boost gauges vary from 50 to 300.
Kragen has some autometer mechanical ones for 50$.
For the installation there are write ups

http://www.awe-tuning.com/media/pdf/...vent_gauge.pdf

but I have no idea how much it would cost.
