my parents will officially not buy me a chip for x-mas cause i couldnt think of enuf things to make it seem worth $500 without telling them it adds 50hp and 70.b/ft, so i had to come up with another idea. i have almost no tools at my house so i think thats what im gunna go for so what are some good tools that you guys have been using the most when wrenching on ur cars? i literally have about 20 tools and they all suck so i need it all. and one stupid question is should i get a metric or english ratchet set?

RE: tools.
Impress them with your math skills.
Chip = $500 Increases your mpg by 4 mpg (maybe a little generous and innaccurate depending on the driver, but this is for convincing purposes) Gas= $3.30 per gallon Tank of gas = 14ish gallons 4mpg X 14 gallons = 56 extra mpg per tank of gas 56 X $3.30 = $185 $500(cost of chip) / $185(money saved)= 2.7 So after about 3 tanks of gas the chip has paid for itself. If that still doesnt work, you can always find a used chipped ecu in the classifieds for $300-$400. |

If that still doesnt work, you can always find a used chipped ecu in the classifieds for $300-$400. +4mpg = 56mpg/tank say 25 mpg (original) vs 29 mpg (chipped) - doesn't matter the numbers, only that they are 4mpg different. $3.30/gal/ 25 mile/gal= $0.132/mile $3.30/gal / 29 mile/gal = $0.114/mile 0.132-0.114 = 0.018 = $0.02/mile saved with the chip $500 /$0.02/mile = 25,000 miles. The chip pays for itself after 25,000 miles, not 3 tanks. A Math Riddle: Three people go into share a hotel room. the room costs $30, so they each pay $10. the manager thinks he should give them a better deal, so tells the bus-boy to go give $5 back to them. the bus boy can't split the $5 evenly three ways, so he gives each of the people $1 back and keeps $2 for himself. so the people paid $9 each, and the bus boy keeps $2. $9 x 3 = $27 + $2= $29.There was $30.Where did the other dollar go? |
RE: tools.
make sure your parents get you impact graded ones. and onepoint8tees calculations are basically on the spot. and getting a job at like autozone or something will help haha.

Seems right to me.... But, if not, I guess I shouldnt have skipped math class to go get high all those times in high school..........

RE: tools.
My math, $0.25 for a diode, $40-100 for a mbc, $40-80 for a boost gauge. Those look more appealing to me. :)
