Default transmission control unit question!!!???

well i know that my car needs a tcu replace so do they need to program this unit or can i just buy it straight from the dealer ship and have some one else replace it for me, at the dealer they are trying to charge me 2600 for everything so i would like to know if there is a special requirement to replace it

Depends. Most of the time the coding of the module out of the box will work just fine. Other times the coding needs to be changed to match the vehicle. In any case the coding of the module can be performed with a vagcom.

How do you know you have a faulty TCU? What wasyour car's symptoms? The reason I ask is because soon I too will be replacing my TCU to see if it is the cause of my on going tranny problems.
