no the clutch is mounted inbetween the engine and trans, the bigass hole is needed for the shifter assembly and all that jazz

i dont know of anyone thats done it...its pretty cost ineffective i would just live with the auto, still got a damn nice car

and the hole would need to be made bigger if you put a manual trans in it i think on the manual trans the shift plate on top of the trans seals the hole up well, and your console will cover it all anyway

i have no idea, heres some of a parts list
manual transmission
clutch
flywheel
clutch pedal assembly
manual transmission ecu
manual transmisson console
manual transmisson gauge set (im on not mistaken there is a gear indicator on the gauge panel for the suto trans)
thats probably only a small amout of the stuff you need
a few grand easy maybe upwards of 5 depending on parts

if you really have your heart set on a manual just hold onto yours and keep looking then trade yours in for it, or sell yours then get it

a nice 5 speed car can be had for your price
i paid 7000 for my 99.5 1.8 quattro 5speed

how many miles are on your car ?

I'm with you, I have Tiptronic in my A4 and I wish it was 5 speed but its not worth the costs and labor to convert it. Just use the Tiptronic all the time.
