Default Transmission Service

So I am at the point in my transmission fluid change where I have removed all the old fluid and have the pan and filter off of the transmission. So I have a few quesitons for those with Bently manuals (if the information is there) How much fluid is supposed to go back in (as per documentation). Does it REALLY matter if I don't monitor transmission temp, and if it does, can I just use a thermometre in there? And when I'm filling it back up I have to fill the pan till it overflows then start the engine and get someone to go through all the gears about 30 seconds each while I keep filling it (always keeps a slight overflow) correct?

Any help would be great. I'm sure it will be ok as long as I get the fluid it needs in there. I'm sure anything is better then the crap that came out! [:'(]

I take it that your car is a TIP?

You fill it until, the fluid comes out of the fill hole, start up the car, go through all the gears, go back to N & fill till the fluid comes out, put the plug back in. Yea, the engine & trans should be warm. The best way is to get the car on 4 jack stands, & run the engine in gear for 5-10min.

Thanks 2k S4,

I finished the job. After all was said and done the tranny took 7.3 qts.

I'm assuming thats what it needed. Shifts way smoother now!

Just an update on my tranny. I hear a hiss noise comming from somwhere when I'm in reverse. I don't know if this is normal. I don't remember hearing it before the fluid change but I might not have been listening for it before. Its not very loud, and it doesn't start the second you put it in reverse, only about a second after it engages. if anyone has any insight that would be great!

Put the car back up on stands or a lift level and hot and recheck the fluid level.

Did you buy trannyoil right from the dealer?

Tranny should NOT be hot, With a COLD start, taake it once around the block and then check the level.
