Tried searching - Need info on K04-15
Sorry if this is a re-post, I tried searching but didn't come up with the answers....
I read in the newbie guide that the K04-015 is a direct replacement / bolt on for the K03 (2002 A4 1.8T Quattro / Auto) but I wanted to know if you need any other upgrades...such as exhaust, intercooler etc. From the way it sounds, you take the K03 out, put the K04 in and you've got an extra ~60hp...
I got a price for chipping the car nowwith APR and it came to close to a grand (Canadian), whereas if I could pick up a K04 for roughly the same price, I'd think it would be a bit more reliable...But don't want to buy it without finding out all the info...If its true, does anyone know how long it takes to swap out the turbos?
Thanks

The turbo is almost identical as the ko3 in the b6's, so this "From the way it sounds, you take the K03 out, put the K04 in and you've got an extra ~60hp... " yeah, not going to happen. Maybe a b5 stock to ko4 chiped....MAYBE
What APR program cost $1000CA - in the US the upgrade would cost $500. Plus, if you get the K04 you would still need to buy software for it, and everything else you listed out. If $ is a problem then just get it chipped, otherwise your looking at a lot more for a larger turbo and all supporting mods.
Ok thanks guys...When I read the K04-015 would be a direct replacement/bolt on, it raised some interest...but not anymore
I got quoted $649 for the first APR program, $189 for the second and $89 for the third...plus 14% taxes (Canada is fun eh?)...so just over a grand for the three programs (Stock/91/93)

I thought about just getting the 93 program, but then I wondered if I HAD to use 93 Octane for it...If I did, then I might as well spend the $89.00 to get the 91 program as well, just in case I can't always fill up on 93+ octane...around here there is only one company that sells 93+...
You can run 91 oct on a 93 program, you just might not get optimal performance. A 2 point octane difference is trivial, and you have a knock sensor to keep your engine from knocking just in case.
