Default trouble with 2.8 taillights

i bought some smoked taillights for a 98 2.8, and when they came the wiring on the left lens was jacked. I multimetered the cars harness and found out where each signal came from. I tested them after rewiring the left, and everything was fine. A couple of days later i noticed that when i hit the brake with the left blinker on, it would only blink once every 5 seconds or so. When i let off the brake it returns to normal speed. When i look at it every light on the left tail lens blinks, plus the right blinker! I pulled the taillight and tested the car side of the harness, and they all have voltage present with the blinker on. My buddy said that the relay might have crapped itself, but how would it short to the right blinker? Any help for me?[:@][:@]
