Vassar if you are seriously considering buying a brand new RS4 odds are you've got some cash lying around. so why don't you just buy both. Have your brand new RS, refined, classy, w/ warranty and your tuned B5 TT S, for tuning, quick, and trackable.

the conondrum has been solved. buy both. and if you don't have the kind of money to buy even one you are wasting our time with your fantasies.

Going from a 6 year oldA4 to an RS4 is a huge jump in all respects. Mostly financially.... Did you win the lottery or get an inheritance or something? Are you aware that an RS4 costs about7 times as much as your A4?

The RS4 is the mother of Audi's for people who dig the A4. The RS6 is the mother of audi's for the people that dig A6's... And so on... At least thats how I look at it.
But we all know the real mother of all auid's is the R8, and the ***** ******* MOTHA OF AUDIS is the R10.

Oh I don't plan on buying either one of these cars. I'm a grad student on his way to a PhD which means I will be poor forever. This is a hypothetical question.

As for the boost gauge, do you really need one with just stage 1? I was planning on replacing my K03 when it dieswith either a Garrett 28RS kit (if I can find the money) or just swapping in a K04 as a direct replacement. I figured once you get past the K03 you need a boost gauge, but not before. Also, I figure that it's going to be a PITA to install a boost gauge without compromising my totally clean interior (completely unmodified). I heard AWE makes a boost guage that fits in the center vent of the AC system and I would consider this, but I also heard it's rather expensive.

Best,

JPF

Audi is stupid for not putting a boost gauge in our cars from the factory. Having a turbo charged engine without a boost gauge just doesnt make sense to me, especially if its modified. It indicates any boost leaks, spikes, fluctuations, and also can indicate a vaccum leak. Its like driving around without a engine temp gauge. It tells you important information that you should want to know.

you want to talk stupid, saab has a "boost gauge" in its car. But its a sweeping gauge likea normal gauge but has no psi on it. Just goes from small block to bigger blocks like volume on a stereo. More like an indicator of boost and not a gauge

Yeah Ive seen such things... I guess its more visually appealing for people that dont know jack. Hell, the new Grand Prix's (non supercharged/turbocharged) have a digital boost gauge that shows bars like ------ by the odometer. Its just a sensor hooked up to the intake mani that reads manifold pressure. So you can look at that gauge when you floor itand automatically add 3 inches to your *****.
