my 12v is at 106k and running like a champ with no squeeks or ne thing of that sort. if your getting a 12v, use the money that you were gonna turbo it with, and get a DSM. than you will have 2 cars, a reliable classy daily driver, and a beast that will rip all these 1.8t's a new one...lol, along with most other cars on the road.

Because I've grown out of the go fast stuff. I need a reliable car thats NOT FWD and a family friend has one they use sparingly and are willnig to sell to me way below book.

Dude why would you buy the 12v knowing how crappy performance items are, i mean the 30v is just as reliable and you can actually do **** to it

You CAN turbo or SC the cars... its just a custom job and will cost more money than its worth...

Same question gets asked about SHOs all the time... total custom jobs there too.

I'm buying a 12v next month because of the reliability... and Quattro.

My point exactly

Well you can do anything if you have the money, but what is the point if if can just buy one year newer and skip the scketch ball "custom" SC or turbo job on something that is not meant to have one.

hey wood_e, hows that SHO? My dad use to have that model of the SHO back in the day, he said it was one of the fastest cars he has ever had up until is Acura this winter. Is the SHO actually somewhat fast?

For a Taurus, yeah, its fast It will do 0-60 in about the 7.3-7.8 range. The real gem of a SHO is the engine... some have 300k + and they're still going strong, no internal engine work done besides rod bearings. The sound it makes when the secondary intake runners open is intoxicating. The engine can also rev to 8k without damaging anything.

The transmissions bolted to them are another story. A lot of the manual transmissions blow diff ins because people think burnouts are cool, and the Ford automatics are junk. I'm lucky to have as many miles as I do on my auto (yeah, it's original).

For the price they're great cars if they're well maintained.

I have a 96 12v with 200k on it, runs like a dream and never had any major repairs needed, so I fail to see how that sucks ***.

Anyways, the 12v engine has a high compression ratio, almost 10.5 : 1, supercharging or turbocharging this would be difficult to do because you couldnt run more than a few pounds of boost, which isnt worth it, and you couldnt run pump gas in it. The stock engine already requires 92 octane.

Anything you can do to make it breathe better will help, do a custom air intake for starters.

I take it you weren't going to try and turbo the 12v, seeing as it seems like you don't have a DSM.
