Default turbo on 2.8?

I wanted to put a turbo on my '96 2.8. can i get the ecu flashed with S4 data? is the compression too high to run a turbo? is this a common upgrade among 2.8ers?

no that is not a common upgrade at all!!! There is a lot more involved then just that! Try searching the forums. The 2.8 has really bad upgrade options especially the older 2.8. Sell it and get a 1.8T if you want to mod it. Thats what I did.

You can turbo anything, in fact it would be awesome to turbo your car. You would definitely need a little more knowledge in order to start doing something as involved as changing the engine's design. I would possibly look into having a garage do the work. As far as tuning look into an engine management system and tune it that way. A good tune can make all the difference.

i think it would be very hard seeing that there isnt a goodperformance market for the 2.8's. It could prob. be done and i would LOVE to see it. I think there has to be a first person for everything so that a consumer market can build up. If you got the money GO FOR IT!!!

Not worth the money unless you are looking for a huge project and have deep pockets. Its easier and more cost effectiveto start with an engine that is already built for boost, like with the 1.8t.

yeah if you do turbo it, it will either have to be a custom twin turbo setup or a custom rear mount turbo set up.

People don't do because they also have the choice to buy an S4.I would buy a 2.8 rather than the 1.8t if I was looking for alittle more power and didn't want to screw around with mods. I'm sure by the time you search around and look at what it takes to mod the 2.8 everyone's headaches will make you change you mind. Its your car do what you want but enjoy the prodject also.
