Turbo is blown. NOW, what's my car worth?
OK, The turbo is blown. It's a red 1997 A4, 1.8t. 144,000 miles. Any idea what it could sell forwithout fixing the turbo?
What does a stock replacement turbo usually cost?

heh... you can replace the stock turbo for ~ 200-500 dollars.....depends on whether you buy a new/used turbo and you need I think about 50 dollars worth of gaskets. Plus the oil and coolant change. But changing it is fairly simple. Before I did mine, the most I had ever done to a car was an oil change...lol....
I did not replace my turbo with a stock one. I would call 1 800 266 7071
It is a Used Audi Parts Store out in Cal. I have had to get a couple of things and they are very good. Im sure they will have a stock turbo for you. You will also need the following gaskets.
turbo to header
turbo to cat
turbo oil return line
....and if you pull off the manifold....which you probably will, then you also need the manifold to head gasket.
Good luck on doing it.
If you have a little bit of extra cash, why not get the k04 uprgrade and a chip?

or a used one from car-parts.com
Just use the sticky thread at the top of the forum here.
I would absolutely fix the turbo before selling. You'll loose more on the sale than if you had fixed the turbo first.

Thanks guys, this is good info. This engine has 145k miles on it. I think it's not a good idea to upgrade to a K04. If I go the used turbo route, what do I look for to make sure I get one in good condition other than miles?
Two words, shaft play. There is a shaft that runs thruogh the center of the turbo (the one that spins the turbines). Over time the fitment deteriorates and the shaft will have some play in it.
