Default turbo charging a 2.8L, looking for advice

Although the supercharger kit for the 2.8 is tempting, I'm not sure I want to sacrifice the mileage... Any one turbo an '01 2.8 A4 that can give me advice or warnings?

Its been done, cost over $10k to build doing it DIY plus hes only running 7psi.

Not worth it by a S4 if you want a Turbo or the 1.8T as this can be tuned to out perform a 2.8SC

i think it would be a awesome mod i know eastside is developing a kit for the 3.0 but that dosent really help you. the most important thing in turboing a car is fuel mixture. i would recommend also getting a wideband o2 sensor as well. a big oil cooler would also help alot. i dont see how it would cost 10k for the kit if you diy. pulling out the old head gaskets and putting in thick copper ones will also help you run more boost, i think with proper fuel and management tuning you should be able too put 9-11 psi down. oh yeah make sure the timing is retarded as far a possible this is a good safety precation and will help against detonation. all you really need to do is put a few safety items i mentioned in and tune it properly and if you can weld good it shouldnt be that difficult. oh yeah dont forget about injectors and a fpr. i like rc injectors but they all do the same thing i guess. an apex avcr would also be helpful although most are intimidated by it difficulty in tuning it proves to be a great tool once used correctly. eip tuning or eastside can provide you with alot of the add-ons you would need for the kit. its been my expirience that vag computers handle 400hp pretty well. most shops out there would be glad to lighten your wallet and build it for you but i reccomend letting them do some of the more difficult things like putting flanges on the manifold/s. the rest is very diy if your not too intimidated. if you want a shopto just build you one i would call eastside or eip, maybe hpa would take interest. those are the only shops that still do custom fabrication and are still distibutor style companies. but im sure they will charge the hell out of you but may cut you a break for doing the fabrication of a kit on your car. if you do it right i dont see why you would have any problems for 20k until the performance turbos start to go. but thats all about how you drive.

you would be 100 times happier with the supercharger anyway...no spool=go fast, faster
