how long should i let my car idle before turning it off in order to effectively allow my turbo to cool off?

Depends on how hard you've been driving it.

If you've been pushing it hard for a while then minute and a half, 2 mins.

If you've been driving it slowly then 30 seconds is well enough imo.

Last Turbo I had (Opel, not Audi, but the principle is the same) I was fortunate enough to have lived about 5 miles from the Autobahn entrance. No matter how HARD I pushed it, and, trust me, some days I pushed the redline in 6th (figgR 170+mph on a DOHC 16v 4banger, so it was DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP into the boost) the 7-10 minutes of *normal* driving was enough time to cool-down the Turbo. I sported my Calibra for a little over 4 years with never a wimper out of the Turbo. Baby it on teh was to the garage and you'll be fine.

Yeah, exactly... if you've been driving your car normally, then you dont need to let it idle at all.

Honestly, the cool down thing should only apply at the track. Who here redlines it into their driveway?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the A/C compressors electric fan provide additional air movement/cooling when the A/C is turned on?
