Default TURBO KABOOOM!

well today i drove my audi to the dealer with my fireengine siren going that was fun gettin the looks!
anyways!
trying to figure out whether to go with k03 or k04.
i've priced out a k04 with awe kit and exhaust and tipchip to be around 2850+shipping.
and the k03 i would just get done at a local shop if not.

now the question is how hard is installing a k04?
it will be me, my girlfriends bro(in lincoln auto school about 80% through it), and my sisters boyfriend(going to be an engineer in school right now) installing it. we have a garage available to us nicer than a dealership could ask for. SO with the three of us combined would it be crazy to try to save a lot of money and install everything ourselves? paintball guy what was your experience?and help would be great! i just really wanna get more than a k03 and i don't want BT cuz i have 100k on my tranny and don't wanna have to get a new one!

so what do you guys think?
go for it?

Turbo install is very simple.. just make sure you prime the turbo with oil before hooking the oil lines up to it

slowly fill the turbo line holes with oil before connecting the oil lines.. that way their is oil there to pull the next bit of oil through

just get a ko3s out of the classifieds for under $200. with equal boost they will make the same power. As for priming, just remove the coilpack harness and the injectors harnesses and then start the car 5 times with 20secs inbetween.

ko4 = ko3 compressor (smaller inlet and less efficient wheel) wheel with 1-2mm larger turbine wheel.
ko3s = larger compressor inlet, more efficeint compressor.

The turbos are only rated 5hp differnt.

The ko3s has a ko4 compressor but with a smaller shaft and a ko3 turbine. Ko4 holds boost longer and better than a ko3s because of the turbine. just because the ko3s is only rated 5hp less doesnt mean it is just as good. It is not how much horsepower you have it is the area under the curve that determines how fast it is.

i love when people try to correct me with wrong info.

The compressor inlet and exducer is larger on the ko3s along with a more efficient 8 blade compressor. The ko4-15 uses a ko3 compressor housing and wheels, the turbine however is 1-2mm bigger, thats the only differnce between it and a ko3. So yes, the ko3s will make simular gains as a ko4 at a far less cost. As for holding boost longer, it still drops off a 5k like the ko3's

okay well i went with the k03 so my question now is the shop said that my APR chip could have something to do wtih my turbo going because i live in denver and teh altitude plays a role for a chip tuned closer to sea level? is that true?
IF SO! would the diode mod be a better solution? i can't really afford an mtm chip that does better at alititude at the moment!
