Default turbo lag?

I just bought a 2001 a4 1.8T
60k on it. Never driven audi before... wondering if this is normal?

Taking off in 1st gear and car hesitates , i keep giving it gas and 2 secs later it goes smoothly...normal?
No noise or other problems when driving.
Are there any problems or kinks that I should know about???? I'm wondering if I should buy the extended warranty? $2k... do you think i'll need it?

what do you mean by hesitates? can you give us an approximate rpm when the car seems to engage smoothly. What is your throttle position? Does it bog down when you have the pedal fully depressed? or do you ease into the throttle, continually giving it more and more fuel untill the boggin goes away?

knowing these answers will help us help you

well...
taking off I apply moderate pressure to the accelerator to about 1500rpm then ease into take off... for about 2 seconds (2500rpm the car hesitates then takes off.
Im thinking its just turbolag... but I want to make sure there is no problem...so if there is one I can have it repaired at dealers cost.

To me that sounds normal, are you chipped? If so your car would take off quicker but there would be more lag until it starts building boost then all of a sudden it goes wild at like ~3300rpms. But if you aren't chipped then yea 2500rpms seems to be normal because stock boost setting run ~7-9psi, so it doesn't take long to build that boost up.

has the timing belt been replaced yet? cuz if not its like a 1000 job. the warrenty saves you 1000 off the bat. more likely than not you will experience some trouble. i had a demon possesed ignition switch. when you started the car it would keep the starter engaged untill you turned the key back a click. eventually a friend didnt know so he burnt up the starter

i know what ur doin. ur trying to launch it at a higher rpm arent u. bc when u do this its not like a honda or anyother reg 5spd. it seems to fall right on its face then all of a sudden its taken off. u have to ease into a launch unless u have an aftermarket clutch. u will screw ur stock one up if u r trying to do this. i learned this when i first got mine. 1 thing i hate about audis
