Default Turbo Question

So today i was out test driving an A4, we passed a nice A6 2.7T, and i stated to the salesman, "Ahh such a nice car, and twin turbo as well" he just looked at me and was like "umm its Bi-Turbo ok?" i always thought that Bi-Turbo meant that they were different sized turbo's and they boost at different RPM's one boosts the other.. and that Twin Turbo's mean that the engine powered both turbo's at the same time.. am i retarded for thinking this? isnt the 2.7T setup to spool both turbos that are the same size at the exact same time?? WTF!!!111one111!!!

I think you got it backwards. The Bi-Turbos spool up at the sametime.

From WikipediaLink to article

The second generation S4 debuted in 1997 as part of the B5 platform A4 line-up. Although the S4 was no longer available with a V8, its 2.7 L, twin-turbocharged V6 engine was more than adequate, producing 265 PS (195 kW/261 hp) in European trim. The engine was slightly detuned to meet US emissions regulations, and power stopped at 250 PS (184 kW/247 hp) in North America.

I think Bi vrs Twin might have to do with the location of the turbos, and the auto maker.

well if you are talking about referring to it as sequential turbos.. then you would have to refer to the other setup as parallel twin turbo setup
