Default Turbo unit

I have a 2001 A4 with 121,000 miles and the turbo is starting to "whine and whistle" a bit. Someone told me that it's just a matter of time before it will fail and have to be replaced.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should purchase the turbo? The dealer or aftermarket?

I'm not too experienced with turbos and need some advice.

do you want to just replace it.?

or do you want to upgrade it to get more power(but spend more money)?

what are your current mods on the car?

cause it sounds like you should just go the the dealer. just bring some lub and grab your ankles

If I were you I would just get an upgraded turbo instead of getting the stocker put back on but then again that is just my opinion. Let us know what your plan is for the car and maybe I can help u find what you need!

Thanks for the replies and advice. I will need to replace it when it dies. I have someone that can do an install at a reasonable cost, but I need
to find a turbo.
Can anyone advise where I can find and aftermarket turbo (rebuilt)or should I buy new from the dealer ($1,500.00).
Are aftermarket units quality or junk, I don't want to have a problem after 6 months!

Thanks,

MrBear...

http://www.g-popshop.com/

You can send them your old tubo (if you do not mind the wait) they can rebuild it or upgrade to a KO4. Very reasonable prices as well

You can get an aftermarket Turbo that will last you a long time as long as its used properly. I have had an aftermarket Turbo on my car about 5 years now and it still spools like brand new.

Get a new aftermarket Turbo and I think you will be happy with the results!

I would like a turbo with some ***** (just what is a KO4 turbo?).

Thanks for all the leads, but where can I find an aftermarket turbo or a K04?

if you want a turbo with some *****, the ko4 isnt for you. Its only rated for 10-20more hp than the stock turbo, depending if you have a ko3 or ko3s (which technically doesnt exist since its still a ko3).

But you can find them new at keniticmotorsports

i'd say a k04 has a little bit of *****. i pull my friends jetta, which has a fully modded k03, by at least 4-5 cars and i'm a lot heavier (he took out the back seat, got some lightweight porsche rims, gutted the trunk, and has lightweight racing seats). and its the only turbo you dont have to upgrade a couple other parts as well. or you could get one of the elim turbo's but i've heard they're less reliable.

if i were you i would get the g-pop shop to rebuild your k03 into a k04, or go all out and get a gt3071r
