Default Update (bodywork, ecu troubles)

Time for by biweekly update

Manifold
about 3 weeks ago I took my old manifold off, and built my new tubular one. I gave it to the welding guy telling him it needed to be done by last thursday, I get a call wed night saying hes not gonna finish so I go pick it up with the intention of finishing it with the mig. The tig welds looked so good that I decided not to mig it so I put the warped manifold back on so that I could get to waterfest. My roomates uncle is a tig welder and he came to wf so I gave it to him to have his uncle weld. His uncle wont weld the whole thing because he is going to show me and my roomate how to do it and let us attack so it looks like I'll be learning a new trade!

Bodywork
When I took the manifold off, I also decided it was time to get the paint work done... You guys know me by now, I dont pay other ppl to do work, and I have always wanted to learn to paint so I began research. I ripped the bumpers, valences, door mouldings all off, and began sanding, and I also picked up some s4 sideskirts for $150. I bought some superglue, silicone, double sided tape a ton of sandpaper, and paint supplies. Sanded for a couple days, drove everything over to my friend house where he built alittle paint shop, and the learning process began. i got dropped off everyday last week after work and worked on the parts from around 4-12 trying to get it done before waterfest. Here's a couple pics

Finalls finished it thursday/friday morning, went back picked everything up afterwork friday, install all friday night into saturday took a 2 hr nap

Sorry for the crappy pics which brings me to my next topic.
Bad news

So after pulling an all nighter to get everything back together for waterfest I load up the car, go to start it, it starts than dies immediatly, try over and over same thing. Run the vag and other diagnostics from the vag-com. Narrowed it down to throttle body or ecu, get a throttle body from my only friend who hadnt left for wf yet, plug it in, no worky. Now I'm pissed and I need a new ecu with a chip that isnt even made anymore. Go to WF in a real pissed off mood, ask around for ecu's and other options when finally I get the idea...Standalone, why I didnt seriously think about this before I dont know, but I am going to get the 034efi stage 1c as soon as My next paycheck arrives....I really NEED a sponsor, any ideas? It costs $1100 and I can tune it myself, but its gonna require me to get a job at school because that $1100 is the money I been saving for school[:@] Oh well, it will be worth it in the end. They have a 1,8t on my turbo that made 347whp in the 1.8t challenge...pretty impressive

Anyways thats the update

It was actually very very decent. Just make sure u have a big fan blowing air air, and make sure the room is closed so its sucking air through filters. Also spray down the floor with water to keep dust down, and give urself room to move around. Most important is lighting, u need lights so that u can see reflections, like if ur doing sideksirt put it at the opposite end so u can look down the skirt and see whats happening.

The ecu I have a feeling got toasted when I was tacking the manifold while it was on the motor. I had the battery unplugged and the ground clamp on the manifold, but I dont know what else could have caused it unless the car got struck by lightning.

Thanks guys

BTW anyone have an extra aeb ecu they wanna rent me for a couple weeks? I am sick of driving the huffy

Anyways, I usually research on vwvortex tech section, and honda-tech's tech section. You'd be amazed at the amt of good info on honda-tech as long as you stay in the tech section. Then once I figure out the basic stuff I just ask question to ppl that know there stuff. For the paint I have my friends dad who knows his paint spray a couple door mouldings first, and he did that for each step, primer base and clear coat. The finish came out so nice that I wont even need to wet-sand which I thought was amazing. When we started he said it was a very very difficult color to spray and that by the time I was done I would have wished I paid someone to do it, but he showe me some tips and you cannot tell at all that the parts were painted seperatly from the rest of the car. I also had to fill some dings dents and scratches and found that the rear bumper has already been painted 3 other times. It was originially santorin!
