yo man it depends where you live but i live in NC and there so many places that can take of this for you. just tell them how much your willing to spend and they will get you the best for your money. but careful buying your first sound system b/c like most people they get taken on their first system. i paid $3500 for my first system which i am still using, it sounds great and im happy with it, but i found another place that said they could have done what i have for half the price. so really you have to find the right place b/c some shops just have better vendors w/ better prices and some shops charge way to much for things that should be free like installation, dynomat, and cables.

oh yeah and the really good places dont usually advertise (have website or are on google for that matter) they are found by word of mouth, so ask people who really have great sound systems and have been doing things like that for a while.

on car audio products it is always good to shop around since the mark up valve on that stuff is really high so best buy my sell the alpine type r sub for 225 but you may fide that same sub at a mom and pop shop that will sell the sub for less. so just shop around the more you know the better.

I don't know about that particular sub, but I just put one in my friend's Audi and after it broke in it sounds great... It's a 1999 A4. We took out the rear deck speakers (the ones that usually take care of most of the bass with the Bose system) because one was blown, put some mesh over the holes to make it look nice... We put a 12" MTX Thunder 7500 and it sounds really nice.

Word of advice: Install it yourself. It can get terribly frustrating if it's the first time you've done it, but just go on the internet and read up on it. It's really not worth the upwards of $200 installation fee (out where I am anyway) for an amp, sub, and the wiring. Just remember if you are in doubt, ask someone. Run your power line and your RCA cables on opposite ends of the car or you'll get buzzing.

if you just powering a sub it doesn't matter if the rcas are on the same side of the power wire since a sub will not be able to reproduce the alternator whine sound as long as you turn you low pass filter on the sub amp (LPF) and your amp is grounded good, but if you are not using the LPF your going to cook you sub. and the amp is not grounded good then the amp will die someday.
just an FYI

...some shops charge way to much for things that should be free like installation, dynomat, and cables.
I'm not going to rant too much about this statement, but everytime I hear something like this I feel like I want to just kill myself. I've been in the automotive electronics business for almost 20 years and the fact of the matter is that nothing should be free when it comes to this stuff. I hate it when "kids" come in my store and quiz me for hours on end about how I do some of the things I do so they can go home and do it themselves- I cant make any money to feed my kids if people don't buy from me. Labor rates should be a reflection of years of experience and developed skills. Unfortunately there are too many "fly by night" small businesses (started by young punks who did nothing more than sit around and bug hard working skilled technicians) that are charging the going rate and don't have a clue to what they are doing. They rip apart a car and damage panels, put scratches in the paint and holes in the vinal and when the job is done they just shrug their sholders and say "sorry man". Dynamat and cables are items that require materials and someone to build them, if they were free then you wouldn't have them anymore. Not to mention that the building the store is in wasn't free, or is the electric, heat/air conditioning, phones, advertising, insurance (those fly by night companies don't even know what that is) or the million other things that take running a reputable business, it all comes at a price.

Anyone who honestly believes the statement quoted above must be a smart-*** kid who has had mommy and daddy hand them everything all their life and keep expecting them to do it and they'll never know what real hard work really is.

Okay, I'm done

^^^^^^ i agree it isn't easy trying to make a living being a car audio installer or sales man. I was an installer for 5 yearsand i had lots of fun, met lots of great people, did lots of cool installs, but i work pretty much open to close (9-9) 5-6days a week and i did have much money to do much of anything, but i loved what i did.

so you maybe right that labor should reflect how long you have been in the industry, but advertise that, tell and show people that you are a real professional who can do things that these other cheap shops cant.

but when i go into some rural areas and find a shop that you only hear about from word of mouth, those shops maybe not be as good as you, but they offer me prices that other stores just cant and their policy is that if you buy it from they they install it for free. how they get their profits so high from such cheap prices i dont care, i am getting a good deal. but hey for your sake 99A4NOW i did go to a reputable shop i am assuming like yours and dropped $3500 when apparently i could have gotten it for $1000.
