i have a sound also when i start my car after its been off for awhile.. it also lasts from 30 secs to 1 minute, it kinda sounds like a broken part.. someone told me it was some fluid being pumped or something but i dont think thats it.

My 99 also made a flutter chatter type of noise on startup that lasted about a minute or so. I could not pinpoint it but when i changed the serpentine belts it went away, so that must have been the problem. It seems that when the belts are cold they contract and make a noise until they warm up and expand (rubber softens).
You might want to check the condition of your belts.

Well so much for that. I swear it went away for a couple days but now it's BACK. I'm not sure what the new belts did for short time but that did not cure it. The belts needed changing anyways (PITA). Need to figure this one out. Flutter noise for the first couple minutes of driving when pressing the pedal (not idle) from cold start (or tepid start) then it goes away. I do not think its the lifters because it goes away fairly quickly. Anyone?
