Default ur opinion

Hi I was hoping u guys can help me out. I'm looking into getting a 1996 Audi A4 Quattro and I don't know much about these cars and I was hoping u can give me some input. The car has 161K miles on it and it has had the timing belt, water pump, front wheel bearings, suspension, and brakes all replaced and it also has an exhaust leak on the down tube. Are these cars hard to take care of? Also what are any problems if there is any this car may have? I would really appreciate any help and input u guys can give.

the car you are looking at is slow and practically unmoddable...

the good part about the car is that it prolly has the most reliable motor (you could easily do 200-250K), I would say that you have the seller fix the exhaust leak or subtract the price of repairs from the selling price....

The 12v is pretty straight forward as far as maintenance goes, you shouldn't have any problems...

have you already had a mechanic take a look at it?...have you gotten an estimate on the repairs it needs?...have you seen the paperwork from the repairs that have already been done?

as far as price goes, if the car is a 5 speed, drives really well and is immaculate it's prolly worth about 4500-5k

as long as you take care of the car it will take care of you (standard maintenance)

well, good luck

take pics and post em if you want some more advice

Just have to stay on top of the maintenance. Buy one that was well maintained, and if you continue to maintain it with regular oil changes and checkups, then they aren't hard to take care of. If you are interested in modding the car for performance, get a 1.8t. If you are interested in modding the car purely for style, get the 2.8. Sounds like the major issues have already been addressed by the previous owner, timing belt, water pump. Gotta watch for vacuum tube leaks and make sure the clutch isn't about to go. I've heard that Audi clutches suck ***, but mine has been holding up well.

I haven't seen the car in person as of yet i've only seen the pics that the oringinalowner took. And yes the car is a 5-speed. The car only had one owner and he said he kept it well maintained but thats his word. Thanks about asking for the paperwork sowhen i go see it i'll defintitely ask if he has any paperwork on what has been done to the car. Thanks for ur help.

Hi its me again i was hoping someone can answer this... Does anybody know roughly how much a new proformance exhaust would cost? Or how much it would cost to just repair it? Also is there any proformance options i can do to this car to give it more umph?

Is it an A4 2.8 12v? You have to tell us what the engine is before we give you advice, sir. For all we know that could have a VR6 mounted in it.

All 1996 A4's in the states have the 12v 2.8............

Anyway, there really isin't anything you can do to give it more "ummmph" . Those are a lot of miles on her. I wouldn't pay more than 3500 for it. as for the exhaust problem. what exactly needs to be replaced? from the engine back?

161 is nothing on a 12v, stop scaring kids just because you can't keep up with the 12v

In regards to exhaust you wont get much power but yo u can always get one for the sound.

psh, a MINT 12v is worth about 4k realistically with that mileage.
