Default Using AT as MT

Hey Folks,
I have a 96' A4 Quattro and though it is automatic transmission, I have this habbit of shifting from D to N at almost all traffic lights... I think, thats because, I used to drive a stick shift before.. I just wanted to know if changing a lot from D to N can be in any ways decremental to the car... Also would this in any ways cause good effects like, longer engine life, less transmission fuel burn and better mileage?
Thanks a lot,

Undue strain on the torque converter will reduce it's life. Take it out of drive only if you are stuck in traffic and know that you won't be moving for several minutes - for that matter, you might as well turn the engine off!
