Default Vag-Com

Hi, i just got my first Vag-Com today. I drive a 98 A4 1.8t tiptronic FWD.
My Mods are Giac Chip, 710n Dv and boost gauge.
Im still fairly new to my car(im no mechanic).
Just wondering is there anything i should do besides scanning for codes?
thanks

yeah I'm getting a VAG soon too. If someone who has experience with this could lead us in the direction to find some things to look at and log (the basics) it would be much appreciated. or possibly write something up? it really should be a sticky thread or a DIY considering how much people rave about the VAG and how, next to the chip, its the best investment for our cars. just a thought.

Check this out: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/audiB5.html

I wouldnt mess with the idle speed adaptation though. You should never have to mess with that, but the rest is really helpful info you could play with.

This is also helpful: http://forums.audiworld.com/vag/

Exactly. But there are some cool tweaks like using the remote to put down your windows, and if you have tip, you can recode it so it shifts slightly different and eliminate the kick-down feature when in tip mode. I use it mostly for checking for codes, reseting service reminder, and Tbody adpatations. I have done some logs before, but havent figured out exactly how to read all the blocks correctly or interperate what they all mean. Its cool also because if your alarm is ever set off, you can check for fault codes and it will tell you what area of the car was distrubed to set the alarm off (interior motion sensor, rear passensger side etc). Plus, you look real cool sitting out in your car with your laptop hooked up being all technical... Makes your neighbor with the Chevy S-10 wish he went German.

yeah I'll be rolling around with my laptop in the passenger seat and when my girl gets in I'll be like "yo you gotta sit in the back!"

jk I would never do that. but the chicks will probly think its cool. it will make it look like i know what i'm doing...

i guess you can also keep track of what hp your putting down and the difference you're making when you get mods done and stuff.

onepoint8tee: what mods do you have in mind for yours once you get that DV?

None, except for an exhaust down the line. Ive already got GIAC and the other stuff in my sig. Im just getting the forge cuz i got a good deal and wont ever have to be replaced. i prefer the concept of a piston type dv rather than the rubber diaphram type in the 710n that can get weak or tear. Also I have read a couple posts on audiworld and here lately that the 710n may only be efficiant up to 18psi, and i normally boost between 18-20 with spikes sometimes at 23 or so psi. The forge or that type of dv allow for better air flow.
