Default VAG COM OWNERS, help with buying one?

Alright, so I've finally convinced my dad that the household needs a vag-com... what with the three 1.8T's in the driveway, and a 4th not far off.

Which one should I get? I figure, I need the "dual K line" one because my dad has a b6 with xenons... which means it has the dual k-wire interface.
I talked to the local distributor, and they want 449CDN + 15% tax for it... it is the "HEX USB + can" or something like that...
phoned another province, and they guy was like "we only sell key com, hex com is a competitors product, which we don't want to sell"

Uh huh.

I'm sure a B7 is in store in the not too distant future... and perhaps something bigger, like an A6 or something for all I know... we are all definately hooked on Audi and VW, permanently. Keeping this in mind, it makes sense to buy the top of the line, so as to increase likelihood of future compatibility... but is the HEX USB + can what I should be after? What kind of prices did you guys pay (state currency please!)

Thanks in advance!

Which one do you have? Do you mean you'll sell me yours, or that you will have all the info I need after you buy one yourself... I know you have experience with the ross-tech guys already.

I know I need hex usb + can... because my dad has the 02+ with xenons... so the dual K wire thing.

They want 449 for it... yowza! (CDN) + 15% tax. If I buy from USA, I'd likely save... but would get dinged the 15% when it crosses the border.

Yea I have the hex-com usb. I really feel bad selling it because this product has better customer service than anything, car or not car related. I am almost 100% sure I'm gonna sell it, it retails 350usd, so ill prolly be looking for $300usd

Holy jeebus, 350 USD is retail! I think we get the same price as you guys then, 450 CDN = 350 USD... that's pretty crazy! I thought picking it up local would be insanely expensive, as canadians get screwed... not this time though :P

They told me 449! screwing me for 9 dollars, or are you just working off memory?

Are those guys into negotiating? All car places negotiate... but I dunno when it comes to the Vag stuff.

And yes, H2 is where I'll be going, I live in bowmanville, which is east of oshawa. I'd get it mailed here for 10 bones.

449 x 1.15 = 516 + 10 for shipping... so 525 all said and done.

The reason I'm buying the 449 one is because A: I need USB, and B: the 2002+ with xenons require it, and my dad has a 2002 with xenons... I have a 2000, so i'd be fine, but lets face it, there will likely be more audi's in both of our futures. I'd consider spending the extra 100 bones.

I am actually going to call the place out in novascotia tomorrow, and see what they will sell it for... make sure its the same.

If you arent getting the hex style, and are getting the key-com or whatever... I think a place in alberta sells it, and you wouldnt pay PST, cause alberta doesnt have it. Plus I got the impression that that place was cheaper... that place however does NOT sell... umm, its either hex they dont sell, or key... or + can stuff... I can't remember. Call them though.

EDIT: plus, if you live in the GTA, you can ***** out your vag... charge like 20 bucks, or a case of beer... hell, YOU forked over the 3 - 500 dollars for it, and the dealer wants 91.90 for a scan. Charging 20 a piece to recoup a bit of your cost, seems OK to me.

Out where I live though, I doubt that will be an option -- not many audi's... or people who care about their VW's.

In US $ how much is VAG that will do everything up to a 2005. I only have USB ports not one of those old style ports. Is it the 350 US? Where do you get it from. I have a 1996 A4 which i'll probably upgrade in a year or two.
