VR6 MAF with ko4?
Right now I have a Giac chip in a 2000 1.8tQ but am planning on installing a ko4 in the near future. Recently my MAF went and now im in the market for a new 1. If I purchased a k04 would I need to replace the stock MAF with a vr6 maf like Ive heard? If so where is a good place that I can buy the correct one?
Its not the sensor I dont think, but the MAF housing that needs to be changed. It would not work well unless you upgrade to the right software that calls for it. Unfortunately I dont think you can just buy the housing as a seperate piece.
I had a friend and he works at an audi dealership but owns his own shop as well, so I went to him today and had him run VAG on my car. The MAF was giving no reading at all and he told me it was shot and I had to get a new one.
And you have no CEL?? If there was no voltage readings from the maf youd definately have a CEL. I think he vag'd it wrong. If it wasnt doing its job youd know about it wether it be from a CEL, fault code(s), or just plain running like poop, and in most cases- all of the above. If you have none of those symptoms, I think your maf is alright.
no no no... sorry i was so unclear but I did have a cel which is 1 of the reasons i got it vaged in the first place, the second reason was because my chip was deactivating randomly while I was driving and I would drop down to stock boost.
Oh ok, your chip wasnt really "deactivating", you were going into limp mode probably due to running lean from the MAF. I suggest www.ecstuning.com for a stock maf, then when you go k04 and get the proper chip for it, then get a Vr6 maf housing and reuse your new sensor with it. When the time comes, try to look in the classifieds for a used vr6 maf/maf housing since all i think youll need is the housing itself.
