Warming up the car
I dont have a manual for my car (2003 1.8t), so haven't had a chance to read one yet. Always have thought that any car should me warmed up ( if it possible). Here https://www.audiforums.com/m_453689/tm.htmpeople say give it about 30 seconds and you are ready to go.
you could very well start it up and go, but I wouldnt begin to run out the rpms on a cold motor. I usually give the turbo a chance to get some oil running through it before I start moving. I just dont like running on a cold start.
the manual only says to not let it idle to warm up because of emissions. the cat isn't doing it's job until it is warmed up. this reason is why on the later year cars, ATW and above, have a secondary air pump. this pumps hot air directly to the cat to heat it up to get it operating and functional..
but what i do and arguably the best way to warm up the car without hurting it is to start the engine. depending on outside temp. let idle for between ~30 seconds and ~2 minutes.. then drive it. but NEVER get into boost until your oil temp guage starts to move(at least above ~150*)
and A4nicator: from the point you turn the car on the turbo has oil, and coolant, running through it.. the only thing is oil is not up to it's full workingself until it reaches in the area of ~170+*)
