Warning Noob question: How do I tell if I have factory HIDs?
I tired popping the hood and looking for the balast assembly, but I am new to the Audi and am not sure exactly where to look. I figured that it would have to be near the headlamp assembly, but didn't see it, so maybe I don't have them, but I want to be 100% sure before I fork out the money for a conversion kit. I remeberreading somewherethat all of the options on the car are listed on a tag near the spare tire. So I pulled spare, and found the tag. It says that I have a A4 Limited 1.8T. Then it lists like 10 lines of 2-4 digit codes that I am sure are the options, I just don't read Audi-ese. So the question is this, where would the factory balast be loacted, and is there somewhere that I can go and translate the codes in the trunk, or could I post them and someone here could tell me what I have.
By the way, I have a 2000 A4 1.8T Quattro Tip.

the ballast should be mounted on the back end of the headlight assembly.. if not you could possibly have aftermarket HID's installed by the previous owner. and the ballasts could be mounted almost anywhere..
but what color is you lights? when you turn them on do they flash bright, then dim a little, and then focus a bit and get brighter?
also, if you stare directly into the lights do you go blind??

If I bend down about 2 feet away they are fairly bright. They don't really do the bright, dim, focused thing, but they kinda act like they are warming up. they are fairly dim when they first go on, then brighten up.

I have decided that I don't have HIDs yet, but give it a week and I will. I also live in Ogden. I was driving home on Washington a little bit ago and a bunch of little civics were out messing around thinking that they were fast because they could rev thier automatic in netrual, then drop it into drive and chirp thier tires. Anyways maybe at some point we can get a meet going. I have seen a bunch of A4s lately and driving to Logan in the morings for work, I pass a RS4. Some old dude owns it in Mantua. Its real nice though and fairly quick.
