Default water in batt compartment/transmission limp mode?

Hi,

I am seeking advice on what I should do following an unfortunate plug of the drain in my battery compartment that turned it into a bathtub during last night's rain. The first indication I had was that water started leaking into the front passenger side in large amounts as I accelerated this morning, followed a short time later by all of the PRND234 etc. indicators lighting up at once. I think my car may be in "limp mode" now from what I have read. It still moves, but doesn't accelerate well at all.... pretty much what I would expect if it was tossing me into 3rd or 4th gear.

I have removed the clog and drained the battery compartment and wonder if anyone has tips for what to do next. There was a lot of water sloshing around up there and I'm unsure if it would be the main computer having got wet or maybe some other controller specific to the tranny somewhere that got soaked.

The first question is whether I should try to limp my car home today, or if that would be quite unwise.
The 2nd is how I should go about diagnosing/resetting the transmission issue?

Thanks for any help....

first you need to dry it all out next is to remove the fuses to the tranny ECU which should reset the tranny to standard mode and with luck it should be drivable

sounds like your ecu might have gotten wet! uh oh! [:@] try getting the codes read. or if you can't, try unhooking the battery for a while then reconnecting and do a TBA.

Thanks for the responses so far.

Can you tell me where the tranny ECU fuses are located? Is there a certain length of time I should keep them removed for in order to ensure it is reset properly?

TBA for 96 a4 is turning the key to accessory for 45 seconds? Or do I need to have a vagtool for that?

Thx again for all the help....
