The writeups i posted will get him in the area he needs to be to change the water pump. You are obviously more concerned with putting me down and making idiot remarks than helping this guy.

Yeah you really had it covered there... The guy asked for instructions on how to access the water pump. I posted directions to get him started. I never said the timing belt had to be removed in order to change the pump. I see you forgot to take your medication once again.

he said he had his timing belt done and the mechanic did not change the water pump and I said it is external on 2000 and down cars and does not need to be changed unless he is having a problem with it I'm trying to save the guy some money but thanks for your advise very helpful

He plainly stated he wanted to change it before it died even after you said it is not necessary. And i'm the one who is not being helpful...

The timing belt drives the water pump on the 2001 AWM 1.8T.

Jesus....ok I have a 1998 A4 1.8T, its not leaking but if it hasn't been done I don't want to wait....I just bought the car and the timing belt was changed a few days prior to my purchase. That work did not include changing the water pump.....
All I want to know is where it is, how to take it out, is it external or internal...that is it. Geeez!

yours is external, use the write-ups that jestnomen linked you too above to see where the water pump is and how to remove it (included in the timing belt write-up is the directions for removing your water pump)
