WELL THAT WAS FUN!!!! NOT!
So yeah this morning I went to change my coolant temp sensor before leaving for work. I got the old one out and put the new one in and all was good... or so i thought.
I made it about 5 miles from my house and started to get 3 beeps coming from my computer. The coolant level low thing started flashing on my screen and then I checked the temp gauge and it was about 4 bars past straight up! So i pulled into an albertsons parking lot and as soon as I stopped I had a LOT of smoke and steam coming out from under the hood. (there were a bunch of construction workers there to building a new building and they were all stairing at me. It sucked) ANYWAYS,
I opened the hood and noticed that ALL of my coolant was gone from the tank. Thats right it was bone dry! I looked around and noticed that it was leaking from the coolant temp sensor area. Well i called one of my friends and he came by with some tools and I pulled the new sensor out. Then i realized what had happened. The Audi dealership assembled the sensor and O-ring wrong. The O-ring was on top of the sensor instead of on the bottom. So that made it so I just pumped all my coolant out onto the road. So i switched it around and then started to put it all back together and ended up dropping the little U clip down onto the top of the tranny. I ended up having to go back to my house (in my friends car) and get some pliers and a glove (i burned my hand once before trying to get it out. NOTE TO SELF! DON'T TOUCH THE CAT!!! IT'S HOT!!! LOL) then got back and still couldn't get it out. So we started pouring water down in that area to flush it out and it just made it worse. I finally climbed up under the car and felt around and got it out and then finished putting it all together.
So moral of the story is check the parts BEFORE you put them in your car. Thats a mistake I won't make again!

Shouldnt you have been able to tell by the way the old sensor came out, the way the new sensor is supposed to go in though...? Doesnt common sense suggest the 0 ring is a seal for between the sensor and flange? I didnt realize the sensors come "pre assembled" with the 0 ring on the sensor? The dealer gave me mine in two seperate parts, and the 0 ring only fits on the sensor one way anyway..? Im so confused! Sorry to hear about your situation though...
LOL, yes that was me being a moron. I was in a hurry to try and get to work so i didn't pay that much attention. (Ok, so second thing learned, don't work on your car if your in a hurry!)
And yes I filled it with distilled water. I'm not THAT moronic. Thanks alias!
