Went to a car show yesterday LOL!!!!!
I've got a buddy in Australia that tells me that Japanese kids regularly buy new WRXs and drive them from the lot to a shop for a good $75-80K of mods. Apparently, you aren't cool unless you do.
If you have that kind of money to throw around - get yourself a yellow Ferrari and really stand out from the crowd. Or if you have brains - get yourself a nice 911 turbo and mod the crap out of that. No 80K WRXs will be taking you down then.

For $80,000 you could find a 13 second Ferrari 355 or you could have a 10 second WRX (and you sure as hell can't buy a 911 turbo and make it run 10s for 80 grand). Sure the Ferrari and the Porsche will feel better but they are in no way sleepers. I guess it's all about personal preference but it'd be good feeling to have that NO ONE on the street could beat you. Not to mention with a good suspension setup you could get road course numbers as good as either of these two cars.

Yea, you'd get more tail but he's married LOL. Overall, it really doesn't matter. His car is sweet in its own way. Peronally, I also would rather have the Ferrari. Mainly because of reliability and resale value. Oh well, I've got a 15.3 second A4

Actually, he just got it back Saturday. He has to put 2000 miles on the motor before it's dynoed or raced (I said 650 because they said at least 600). It's a WRX with a fully built STI motor. He's got a GT35 turbo, but I'm not sure how much boost he'll be running. They built the entire bottom end and took it out for a run (STIs have stout top ends stock). Within half a mile he broke a valve spring. They put it back in the shop and built the entire top end. He also has a racing tranny with straight cut gears. The coolest thing to me is that other than the racing clutch and flywheel and extremely loud exhaust it drives great. He took it round trip to Montgomery yesterday from Tuscaloosa (about 300 miles) and it ran perfectly. He didn't take the cheap way out on anything which unfortuantely caused an investment of about $80,000; however, he'll have a realiable 10.5 second car!
