what cars will a stock 2.8 beat off the line

Can anybody get me/direct me to an article or posting that validates this sludge business? I am seriously looking into a used A4 1.8t and, well, sludge would just ruin my day.

the only mod thats really worth it for a 2.8 is the neuspeed chip. It gives you 10-15 WHP, and 10lbs of trq at the wheels. Its dyno proven on more than enough cars to call it a legit mod. Its $299 so whether or not you think its worth it is up to you.
And the truth is that the majority of 1.8's on the road and even on this site wont ever beat a 2.8. A chipped 1.8 wont "walk all over" a 2.8 like most people believe. A chipped 1.8 runs a 15.7-16.0-ish in the 1/4 mile... stock 30v 2.8's put down sub 15.5 numbers all day long.
people forget the 30v 2.8 comes with 210lbs of torque.
The main thing that KILLS these cars off the line is the DAM CLUTCH! theyre horrible, they dont grip for SHlT but at the same time it probably allows the clutch to be a lot more reliable.
I have so much to say on this subject I could type for an hour.

The intake I have is a ram intake with the same cold air dump coming in from behind the grill with a heat shield as the stock air box with a heat shield. same heat blocking as the stock air box, same cold air. as far as what intakes do. more surface area, less resistance, more air. it isn't that german engineers don't know anything. it's that marketing tells them that they need to keep a quiet car because it's luxurious which is why you also have all that foam attached to the hood. to keep things quiet. so yes with a intake you get more noise because you are getting more air. more air equals more power.

its a 99 30v with 80grand mileage.
im not looking to mod it out for serious racing, im just looking for some more power to beat some 3 series beemers and that lot.

can u post a dyno? (im legitimately interested)
a chipped 1.8T won't walk all over a 2.8 but it definitely will win. a chipped 1.8T has more power and is slightly lighter.
oh and the 30v has 207 ft. lbs @ 3200 RPM, while a chipped 1.8T makes ~225 ft lbs of tq @2000 RPM. again you lose

edit: his set up
K&N air filter/intake
APR Stage I Performance Chip
ECS RA4 Stage 1 clutch and flywheel
he also has 18' rims so that might slow him down a little bit.
