This is pissing me off now. I just got a 2003 A4 1.8T quattro and the previous owner took out the ash tray completley (its in the glovebox). I want it available to put coins in etc but it wont open at all. I dont get it, isnt the ash tray what the ash tray door clips in to? I tried jamming credit cards in there but I can only jimmy it open about a quarter inch.

 

Just forget it. The ashtray is a pos design on B5's/B6's. I gave up on mine a long time ago.

 

Jeez eh? I was hoping I could just leave it open because I dont feel comfterble with the middle console box folded down ( I dont know the actual name, the arm rest thing).

 

i always did hate the design of the center console arm rest, so uncomfortable to shift with but then again nice for curising down the highway.

 

I dont know, im not crazy about it. Me going from a 96 sidekick to this is taking alot of adjusting. I just figured out how to use cruise control :S lol

 

I did too for the longest time, then tried it one day and it worked. I was like WTF??? And then try it a few days later and its fucked again haha.

 

Even if you got the ash tray back in there DO NOT put change in there, thas what gets them stuck all the fvcking time. You have to remove the radio and A/C control head to remove the ashtray BTW.

 

mine was stuck once and i decided to take it all apart, I found 4.50 in change back there. coins tend to slide back there and jam the door from opening. happens all the time. now i barely use it.

why dont you take the shifter panel off it pops rite out then maybe you can pull it out.
