WHAT GETS BETTER GAS MILEAGE
When in auto the car drives in the most gas-effecient way possible; if you think you can drive similar to that but still want more control over down-shifting, then I guess...hmm I gotta go to bed I can't think straight.
Hey, I have a question: How does the tiptronic handle locking the torque converter? Does the torque converter even lock, and does being in auto vs tip mode affect when it does or doesn't lock?
Best thing to improve mileage is to go against what these cars are built for.... Slow down. With our B6 1.8T with CVT I can get 35+ by driving gently and sticking to the speed limits on a 40 mile commute, while if I drive "Normal" it runs around 28. If I run hard around town all day long, it gets 23 to 25. The difference is like getting a dollar a gallon off each time you fill up!
