OK folks. I am new to the Forum and have a non-mechanical question.
What does "avant" mean in Audi speak? I can look up the standard definition, but in this context, what does it mean?

I am sorry I was not clear.
I OWN an Avant. I know what it is...but I am looking for the origin of the model's name.
Language geeks would ask for the entymology of the name...

avant mean
adj. forward, front

adv. before, in advance of, previous to, earlier, previously, prior

prep. before, until, till, ere

http://www.babylon.com/definition/Avant/English

so i dont know why they would call a wagon an AVANT
but avant does sound way better then wagon

As I said privately, we know there are various names for wagons, such as Shooting Brake. And Bmmr chose "touring" which I guess is self evident.
But what is the intent of the Audi choice of Avant?
Does not seem to be related to the function of the vehicle.
BTW, I really like the car. replaced our V70GLT.

Soccer Moms? Hah!
Tell that to the Avant pilots at VIR. I was there this weekend with Potomac region of Audi Club. there were THREE avants on track. two S4 versions.
