Recently purchased a 2002 A4 with the 1.8T engine and 57K miles on the vehicle. Should I be using synthetic in this, or just regular oil (I am in Boston, if that matters)?

 

mobil 1 fully synthetic 0W40... only use synthetic.. its 10x better.. and gives the car a longer life.. and a happier 1.

i use mobil 1 too but i use 5W-30 in it. Runs good. I have also used 10W-30 in it also worked fine but make sure whatever grade u use that it is synthetic is much better as said above.

 

I use AMSOIL 5w40 European FOrmula

 

For the turo engine use an oil that meets ACEA A3 , like Mobil 1 0W-40.

 

im confused (yes i am a bit of a noob), but i see alot of people say 0w and some say 5w, which is the better on for a 2002 1.8t quattro?

If you want your engine to live longer, don't use Xw 30, use Xw 40 or Xw 50. For all year round the best I found is Mobil1 5w50.

 

In a climate where it gets colder than 5 degrees use 0w, in climates where it does not get colder than 5 degrees use 5w. The weight is base on the temp. With 5w the oil begins to thicken to the point it doesn't flow well at 5 degrees ferinhieght. With a turbocharge motor this can cause you turbo to be oil starved at startup.
