I just got my A4 (1998 2.8 Quattro) and I need to change the oil but when I went to Wal-Mart I could not find any oil that met the specs for what the book called for. the book cals for an api rating of SF or SG and all the sythetics are SL/CF. I have always run Mobil 1 in all my vehicles, I was just wondering if this was OK. And one more quick question the trip odometer flashes 1n 2 for a little bit when i first start the car, so i looked in the book and it says "aditional service required" it is a preset time thing, what does that entail? and do i have to have that done by the dealership or some one that can shut it off or can i do it my self and just have the dealership shut it off?? thanks

You will be fine with mobil 1 if that what you like to use. There is a way to reset the light im just not sure how try searching it I know it involves holding down the button by the clock and the other button by the odometer, I just can't remember the exact sequense.

 

I used 5w-40 syn audi use syn

 

Wal-Mart sells Castrol Full Synthetic 5w-40 which is VW approved.

 

mobil 1 is good 0W/40 or 5W.30

Mobil 1 0w/40 synthetic with Mann or Mahle filter.

Currently running amsoil with the mobil1 micro filter, but valvoline and mobil1 are pretty good too.

 

dealers use 5w40 catsrol 100% synth.

i suggest you use that.
