What should be the first mod
I just purchased an 02 A4 1.8t, I'm really new to moding cars and wonder what you guys would suggest as being the first. I really want to start with the engine, keep in mind I just bought it so I'm a little broke. What would give me the most power for the least amount of money.
Normally i would tell you, but i got a fatty calculus test 2morrow and im tired at $hit. so do us all a favor. and sue the search tab. this question has been asked by many people many times. if later you hvae a more specific question that isnt DIRECTALLY answerd many times in the forums, then by all means. ask.
If you're not going to go BT in the near future, get a chip. I'm not sure about the B6, but for the B5 GIAC and APR are the big chip names. I think I've heard lots of good things about REVO for B6's though.
The chip will add about 50hp/50tq (don't quote me on that) and will cost about $500 + $30 for a 710n diverter valve.
In the top of the forums I'm pretty sure theres a sticky with some more info about chips.

o man. expect to get flamed tomorrow for this. use the search feature and you will find assloads of topics about this
absolute first thing is chip, go with apr, revo, or giac. adds like 50 horse and 70 ft/lbs of torque. at the same time you are gona want to get a new DV cause your stock one cant handle the added boost for too long. then intake, exhaust, test pipe, wastegate valve, and you will be set.

If you are broke then the first mod you should do is a short shifter and an APR snub mount. (under $300)
Then enjoy your car and get to know it's limitations and then save up for a chip and new diverter valve. Which chip? Doesn't matter which one you pick but I suggest buying the chip that is sold by a nearby tuner which gives you the best support. The best chip in the world is crap without after sales support.
Then enjoy the newfound power and start saving more money and upgrade your suspension to shocks and srpings or coilovers.
Next step would be upgraded 386cc injectors.
After that I would suggest swaybars. By far the best upgrade for the money but it is useless without an upgraded suspension.
After that get an intercooler. FMIC or DSMIC... doesn't matter which just get one. When you get past this stage you won't need any of us to tell you what to do next.
