What should I do?
Ok my car is great but I'd rather have a 1.8T manual...This car dealer is selling an early 99 1.8T with 90k for $8000, I could probably talk him down a little. Paint is great with fairly new tires, except for a 2" rip in the driver seat the interior is fine, car runs great, clutch and tranny feel good. The trade in offer is a disapponting $4500, I was hoping for around 5-6 grand. Now should I seriously consider it or just keep looking for a better deal?
That doesn't sound like a horrible price for the 99, at least for a dealer. You could sell your car yourself and get more for it than the dealer will ever give you. It would be cool to get the 1.8T, but remember you are going to lose all of the mods that you already did to your car, so you are going to be starting all over with mods. What year is your car BTW.
What do you have about $1k in mods. Whatever it is, you won't be able to take many if any of them over to the new car so its a grand down the drain. You are also only gaining a car with 30k less miles. The 1.8T is a lot better for modding, but as just stock cars go, you wouldn't be gaining much. I wouldn't want to lose much money in the trade. If you sell off your car privately, I would say you don't want the difference between what you get for your car and what you pay for the new car to be any more than $1k - $2k. This is all just my opinion. I would recommend that you hold on to your car for a little while longer and wait until you can afford a b6. That way you are upgrading to the later body style.
