Hey everyone im new to this forum and just wanted to know what you thought about this a4 i found for sale. Its a 1997, 1.8t. with about 108,000 miles. The owner has had some mods "professionally" installed. They include a ko4 turbo upgrade, diverter valve, testpipe, smoked headlights, boost guage and m3 spoiler. The car has also been lowered 2 inches. He says he still has the stock ECU in place, but has the upgraded one on hand. he is asking $8300. and it is a 5 speed manual with the quatro awd. I am interested in this a4, but the mileage and mods he has done have me worried about the reliability of the vehicle. I would be buying this car as an everyday ride, and would not necessarily have the money to do repairs if something would go wrong, seein as though i am in college. I would apppreciate your input. thanks.

 

Those mods aren't worth a lot of money... K04's are pretty cheap (although overpriced because they are Vag parts)... but the upgrade can be done fairly cheap.
And do you need emissions testing? Test pipes = bad for that... clearly. Easy fix though, I guess. I would hate to buy a modded car.

 

I have almost the exact same car, mileage, mods and all. Seems strange to have a ko4 without the chip installed. That would mean the turbo is sending to much boost for the fuel mixture but maybe there is something else going on there. I had to replace a wheal bering and i did the timing belt because it really has to be done every 60k. Other than that it is a solid car at 117k and counting. I do have stock exhaust though.

I paid $7,995.00 for mine and then put a little over a grand into it for the above work and i don't have any buyers remorse at all. I drive it mor than my RX-8. Even thinking about selling my 8.

 

I agree with buying a modded car like headshok....its a hard way of finding out sometimes how they really treated their car (like someone saying they didn't race an aftermarket turbo/sc'd car), plus its more fun to do some mods yourself!

i'd try to get that for lower all those mods i'd be concerned

personally i would never buy a modded car but thats just me

seanhawkfan - damn those RS4 rims look so sexy i cant wait to put mine on!!! are those 18's? and what type of suspension do u have and wut offset for the wheel

i always try to avoid modded cars because that usually means that its been driven hard. i also like the thought of my self doing the stuff to it my self..... but if you do go for it defanetley get it checked out by a mechanic.

 

mjvss21. yeah it is currently located in michigan. Another thing that has me concernec about the car is the license plate say something like "revemup" yeah, that cant be good can it? And everyone that has posted. i appreciate your input into this subject.
