Hi All, this is my first time posting, I am seriously considering buying an Audi this summer and was leaning towards the A4 1.8 turbo quattro, I was wondering if this is my best choice for the money (I'm looking at spending under $10,000 for a 96-98). I have also been looking into the A4 2.8 and the A6. One of my main concerns is the Gas Mileage, which of the three is the best?? Also is it recommended that I use premium gasoline all the time?? or is it ok to use regular unleaded?

Recommendations regarding any other differentiating points that I should consider between the three models would be appreciated.

For you i would say the 2.8, much more reliable. Also, if your looking to cut corners and save a few cents by buying cheap gas and other stuff, i wouldnt buy an audi. But with the 2.8 you have some decent power but still have that reliablity.

 

If you plan on modding your Audi go with a 1.8t. There are plenty of engine and performance mods available on the market.

If you have no desire to go fast, then stick with a reliable V6 engine. Also the 96 and 97 years put out 172 HP with the older 12 valve engine. In 98 Audi released a new 30 valve engine that puts out 190 HP. The V6 engine tends to be more reliable than the 1.8t.

The 1.8t will obviously give better gas mileage than the V6.

 

wrong dude. those turbos drink gas like theres no tomorrow

 

also don't buy a 1.8T if you want to use the cheaper stuff the turbo engines can't handle that

1.8t = 21 mpg
2.8 = 19 mpg

Highway:
1.8t = 29 mpg
2.8 = 26 mpg

 

yeah but thats driving like a *****, my car gets suckie gas mileage. The stock 1.8t you always are on it just so u dont get hit.
