Default What's better

I am looking for an answer as to the better sway bar setup. I know people are happy with the h sport setup, and I know others like just a nuespeed rear, but what I want to know is what is the stiffer bar, hollow h sport's or solid nuespeed. Any technical knowledge or some kind of equation to figure out which is the stiffer setup would be great, and some more input on what you have and how much you like it is also welcome.

Hollow has less weight and resists twisting better than a solid bar.

A hollow shaft does not resist twisting better thana solid one. Hollow shafts are used because the torsional stress is greater in the outer most fibers. So, a hollow shaft of greater diameter than a solid shaft COULD be stiffer and lighter in weight. That is why hollow drive shafts of much greater diameter than solid shafts are used today on many vehicles. To figure out which has the greatest torsional stiffness one would need the inside and outside diameters and the material that it is made of. I looked at H-Sports web site quickly and did not see the inside diameter nor the specific material. In conclusion, one cannot reliably say that a hollow shaft is stiffer and lighter than a solid shaft. There are a few more properties that need to be looked at.

Good job using the correct form of than. That always impresses my wife, the teacher.

I am a mechanical engineer and a hollow tube of the same outside diameter and same material regardless of the inside diameter will have less torsional stiffness than the solid shaft of the same outside diameter and same material. End of story. No matter what any moron stays on the web.

you would use a hollow tube for weight issues mainly. it wouldn't be stronger than a solid tube thats just retarded.

I would only assume the nuespeed would be stronger but wanted to hear what everyone else thinks. I like the little debate they had there, that was too technical of an equation though, SMo.

Do your research not only on the topic, but on the product specs...
