whats goin on with audi?
at first im was really exited to get an audi. but now after reading numerous threads saying what goin wrong with them im starting to wonder. how many mile can u usually put on them before they will quit on you? how reliable are like the 1997 to 2000 1.8t?

thanks
literally...they will blow up...a huge firey explosion. everyone in a 500 mile radius will get audi-ed to death. a hiroshima , just at a lesser scale...
dude...you can put a **** ton of miles on these cars, as many members here have a damn lot of miles...the only thing is that you have to maintain your car like it was your baby (which you should). If you take care of your car it will take car of you. do all of the scheduled maintence. change the timing belt at 80k (im pretty sure). dont let bad things go unnoticed or fogeet about them. basically take car of it like you would any other car and you should be fine. every car has **** happen to it at some point or another....

dont forget that many people who go on these forums beat on their cars as hard as they take care of them... but if you drive normally and give as much care as most of the people in this forum then your car's life should be quite long.

No, its cool, I would get a 2000 or 2001 1.8T because they are 170 hp instead of 150 hp. They are reliable but depending on the mileage you do need to replace the timing belt at around 80k tops. But an overall very reliable car.
The 2001s are 170hp. The 2000s are still 150hp.
Every car will have problems, it just depends how well you take car of your car. If you neglect it even the most reliable vehicle will have problems.
Take car of your car and replace the things that wear out (control arms, timing belt, etc) - do your oil changes and you'll be fine.

they aren't as unreliable as the forum makes them seem..think of it this way, for most people on the forum, if their car is running fine, they aren't going to start a thread saying "just letting you know everything is ok!" (ie people usually only start threads when something goes wrong)
as autocrossr said, just take care of it and keep up on your maintenance and it'll last you forever.

No problem. These cars are great, which is why we own them. The reason you see so many problems is that this is a board that helps people solve problems. They will run fo a long time (I'm at 150K miles), but they wont run like a toyota (my last car which ran to 320K miles). They require more maintenance than a toyota or Honda, but in return you get a great driving experience in a sharp car.
