So we're looking at the top of a 30 valve engine from 98. My mechanic said this gunky hose was part of the power steering system but i don't know what its called. I'd like to buy the hose and replace it myself if the job is simple enough to do in my 15 degree driveway. Does this involve draining all power steering fluid? Thanks for any help, i want to nip this before i do any damage to my steering rack, i just noticed my fluid is on min.

Better yet for all the 2.8 guys, what is the plastic type hoes that runs across the plenum you can see the start of it in the picture, To my sight it looks like a vacume hose, mine cracked so i kind of ghetto rigged it.

 

ya....know what....just clean your motor lol, please indicate which side the motor that is, i really cant tell....but duburban might have a point about what it is, i do think it might be a power steering line....

And just for furture reference...you drive an Audi, it dosent need to be ghetto rigged no offense just saying
