Default Wheel Bearing

Hey guys - I'm relatively new to the A4 fix it game but I have recently jumped in with both feet. I have a2001 A4 quatro that I bought a few years ago. The car has hit the 60,000 mile mark and I am now starting to see a few small problems here and there. Most of the problems recently have been with vacuum leaks - I have replaced three different hoses in about 6 months. Anyway - I now have a bad wheel bearing on the passenger side. I havn't had the wheels off yet to tell whether it's the front or the back but judging from the noise inside the car I'd say it's the back. Are these bearings press fit and can I replaceit myself or am I better off dropping the couple hundred dollars for a garage to do it? Any tips would be appreciated.

Here ya go.

Its DIY if you have the tools, or you can always have a shop press out, press in the new one once you have it apart.

You're welcome. Post back later and let us know how it went, how long it took, any things to watch out for, etc.

i just did mine and was happy to find out that you can drop the drive shaft even without taking out any on the link arms. a $90 bearing splitter and spindle type bearing puller did the trick beatifully. the bearing i got at ecs for $60.

I just had my right front done - purchased front wheel bearing from purems for $45(SKF brand) had it installed at a local euro mechanic. Charged me 195.50 to install the bearing. I would have loved to try to do this myself but I live in an apt and don't have anywhere to work on my car

just an idea been buzzing my head on this ( people want to do it them selves ) but dont have the space or they live in a flat whatever,

I would call it "rent a mechanical space RAS" in a garage with the use of their tools and paid assistance when required.

GARAGE OWNERS WATCH OUT keep your ripoff charges down otherwise the above will become a reality
