Where to put Sat Antenna?
Damn, I dont want to drill a hole, and dont want an ugly black thing on my trunk.. any good ideas? Do you think If I painted it white, would it still get good reception?
It probably wouldn’t hurt the reception to bad if at all just don’t get to crazy with the paint... put enough on to make it white but not so much that you make it not work. Why do you have to drill a hole?? To mount it or for the wire, if its for the wire you might be able to have the sealant around the window removed and have the wire ran around the edge of the window and re sealed....just an idea..
it will probably look like this if I put it on the roof

If I try to put it in the back window like the pic below, I am afraid the roof is going to block a lot of the signal.. I have this problem with the Sat radio in my house, the antenna is indoors and doesnt get the quality reception

I would try it inside the car before doing something ugly. Sat radios use two signals, satellite and "terrestrial repeaters." If you live in the middle of no where the Sat signal will work, but if you live in a metro area the "terrestrial repeater" signal will be more powerful. The repeater is just normal radio waves. I live in south florida, there are 3 repeater antennas here. Mine works in the garage.
Yeah you can get a "through the glass" style... so you run it up, and stick one part on the INSIDE of your rear window... and then, another wireless piece, gets stuck on the OTHER side of the rear glass.
Terk makes it.
Terk makes it.
So, did anybody come up with a smooth solution for this? I've been dealing with the same issue. I had the antenna on my trunk, but i just don't like the looks of it out there and I'm paranoid that some young hoodlum will walk by it and cut it off (that's the stupid kind of crap I did before i became semi grown-up ....karma???). Just yesterday, I took an extra antenna I had and placed on the front of dash just forward of the top vents. Reception seems less, but it's hard to say with the extra foliage overhead whether it is the trees or weaker reception. I was considering painting the antenna to match my dash better to get it to blend in more.
im not too sure of the new style satelite antennas but with the old terk one if you painted it it didn't work worth a poo and i did this once on a jeep a couple of years ago when i was a car audio installer i got a satelite singal booster and mounted to antenna under the dash which seemed to work great it was a wrangler like a 99 or something the antenna was under the top of the stereo bezel faceing up i don't hink that the booster really did much but the owner wanted to use one so i used it
