Where should the RPMs be?
I have a 2003 A4 1.8t. It is a 5speed. I had a 2006 Jeep liberty before switching to the audi and I noticed on the freeway in the jeep at around 80 mph im still in the 2's. In the Audi at 80 mph the RPM's are at 3.5 ish. Im wondering if this is where it is supposed to be. I tried to do a search but I couldn't find what I was looking for. I know that with the extra gear ( 6th speed) that it would have dropped to the 2's. So I was just wondering if thats where its supposed to be. I alsohad a scion XB before and I know that it would always be kinda high.Im new to the audi and unfortunately dont know a TON about cars, that's why im here. anyways....anyone with a 5speed or knowledge of them that can help me out?
thanks!!

RE: Where should the RPMs be?
cars har geared differently. and some have different number of gears.. so RPM's at speed differ from every single different make of car..
although rolling diameter of your wheels can change your RPM's slightly. but i doubt that is your case

im not sure if im wrong.... but I think the bigger the engine the lower the rpms are going to be at high speeds....

the only thing that affects this is your transmission. depending on how the trans is geared (how tall the gears are) and how many gears there are

Yeah thats what it is supposed to be at. I was actually reading that in the owners manual. The car is made to top out at 130 or 135 because of the tire rating. They programmed the computer to top out at about 130 and 5th gear runs high anywhere over 60 mph. It is just the way that Audi says to drive the speed limit unless you drive an S4, S6, S8, RS4, etc.
