Whirring Noise - HELP
I drove into the garage with the bike on the roof. Insurance covered it.
Now, the engine runs weird. When I drove to the body shop I turned on the engine and it sounded like a tractor. Shaking and loud and all screwed up. Then I gave it some gas and it calmed down, and I drove it. It has less power, and it sounds like the drive shaft, universal joint or something is making a sound over and over. I went to a mechanic and they were clueless. Obviously something happened when the car stopped. It wasn't much at all really, but something happened. There is sort of a whirring noise. Also, that part that was replaced last year, whch has something to do with the spark, or timing or something (I went through a puddle, it froze, and wrecked it) which makes the electric noise is not cool at all. I don't want to have a golf cart noise every time I drive and shift gears. IT sounds like a golf cart noise as I shift gears. It sucks!
Please help with the whirring! It's like lalalallalalalallalalalalaa as I drive, and it's kind of rough

Hey Audi_CH, I can't tell, but I might be having a similar problem. Here's my post from a few months ago....

I just bought a 2003 A4 Avant Quattro 5-speed manual and I am hearing funny noises from what seems to be under that car. I'll do my best to describe it...
It is a low-tone groan at slow speeds, but the groan gets higher in pitch when I speed up. Also, the groan starts when the gas pedal is just maintaining speed (not coasting, but not accelerating) and when the tranny is in gear. If the engine and tranny are under load (accelerating or maintaining speed up a hill) or if I release the gas pedal, the groan goes away. I only hear it when I VERY slightly depress the gas pedal.
I realize this could be a lot of things, but the issue is making me ULTRA anxious. I hate to say it, but I'm not sure if I trust the dealer that sold me the car to tell me what the real problem is. So, I looks to you guys.

At high speeds, the sound is actually a whirring sound. So far, I have had all sorts of bearings changed in the transfer case (rear part of the transmission), but it didn't work. My former mechanic suspected it is the CV joint in the center axle. I haven't gotten around to checking that though.
Is this problem similar to yours? Did you find a solution?
