Whirring sound went started
 

Hey everyone... I have a 1998 Audi A4 Quattro and just recently I began hearing a whirring sound coming from the engine (which sounds like the fan belt to me), but I am not sure. Also, with the onset of this noise the Check Engine light has just come on. Any idea what is wrong?

Go to Autozone and get it scanned for free then post the codes.

Any noises other than start-up?

I will get it out to Autozone and get codes posted as soon as I can. No, other than that there are no other sounds, so I am open to any possible problems or solutions.

My car makes a whirring noise like that too when I start it, mostly when it is colder though. I think it is just a belt of some kind, I never got a CEL from it though.
